As part of its selection of ongoing dance education services, dancescience.net is pleased to announce their new course:

Experiential Anatomy for Dancers

With a focus on injury prevention, the course offers series of informational and practical sessions for dancers that focus on applied anatomy, movement science and the management of potential dysfunction. Students will integrate learning about the body through practical, hands-on sessions and movement explorations designed to increase self-awareness. Components include

  • Introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the locomotor system
  • Joint structure and movement potential
  • Assessment of alignment, strength and flexibility
  • Injury risk factors and common dance injuries
  • Preventative exercise

 

The course tutor, Cheryl Cowan, was for two decades a professional dancer in Switzerland with the Geneva Ballet and the Zurich Opera and has taught dance in both Switzerland and England. She is a qualified Feldenkrais practitioner, holds an MSc in Dance Science and has taught at both Birkbeck College and at Laban in London. Cheryl is also a trained remedial sports massage therapist and is a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association.

DanceScience.Net is a network of dance educators who aspire to safeguard the health and improve the performance of dancers through educational seminars, workshops and consultancy. Their services offer the latest research in the field of sports and dance medicine and science combined with a holistic mind/body approach.

The course runs on a modular system that can also be booked singly, as four weekend workshops or as an eight-day intensive.
